how telemedicine can serve you

Telemedicine is the means in which healthcare providers can provide care to patients. With telemedicine, patients’ traditional in person office visits are replaced with virtual visits utilizing audiovisual capabilities. In the simplest terms, instead of going to your provider’s office when you have a health concern, think of face timing with them instead. A few of the many unparalleled benefits of telemedicine include- convenience, efficiency, and access to care.

Convenience is by far the leading benefit of telemedicine. Gone are the days of driving to your provider’s office, waiting in the waiting room and then the exam room. Telemedicine provides patients the same access to their healthcare provider, but from the comfort of their own home, office, vehicle, or even in between work meetings or child drop offs. During my last pregnancy, I was an insulin dependent gestational diabetic. I met with my endocrinologist virtually via telemedicine every two weeks. By the time I reached 30 weeks, I was so relieved I didn’t have to leave my home with a 4 year old in tow for a brief 15 minute visit!

Telemedicine is highly efficient. Behind most telemedicine practices are robust and intuitive patient/provider platforms. Middle Sister Skincare Clinic utilizes PracticeQ, a reliable and easy to use HIPPA compliant work horse electronic health record (EHR). With PracticeQ, patients also have the ability to self book appointments, message their provider, complete documents/consents, review prescriptions, update payment, view billing, and even upload photos/documents for their provider. Prior to an appointment, patients complete necessary intake forms which also includes a questionnaire regarding their skincare problems. This allows me as a provider to gather and analyze information thoughtfully prior to the appointment, so that I have a better understanding of your concerns and history prior to our virtual visit.

Telemedicine can provide much needed access to care, especially for “hard to get into specialties” such as dermatology. In my work as a W2 employee, I work as a dermatology nurse practitioner in an outpatient derm clinic. I am well aware of the wait times it can take to get into the office, even for something as simple as acne. A patient in need of a simple follow up visit for acne may have to wait weeks to months, which can seem so long to a patient who struggles with acne on a daily basis. One of the ultimate goals of Middle Sister Skincare Clinic, is to help decrease wait times for patients to see a dermatology provider for common skin problems.
